What Really Makes a Perfect Edgebanding Match?

Why Teknaform’s Tafisa® Matches Are Different

When it comes to edgebanding, achieving the perfect match is about much more than simply finding the right colour. A match that looks perfect under one light, on one panel, or from one angle may tell a very different story once it’s installed. That’s why matching is both a science and an art—and why every detail matters.

Here are the five things we look at before we ever call something a “perfect match.”

Colour Tolerance

No two manufacturing processes are exactly alike, which is why acceptable colour tolerances are so important. The goal isn’t just to get close—it’s to ensure the edgebanding blends seamlessly with the panel within industry-accepted tolerances, so the finished piece looks like one continuous surface.

Gloss Levels

Have you ever noticed two materials that are technically the same colour but still don’t look right together? Often, the culprit is gloss.

A matte panel paired with a satin edgeband will reflect light differently, making the edge stand out. Matching gloss is just as important as matching colour to create a seamless finish.

Texture Alignment

Texture plays a huge role in how we perceive a match. Woodgrain, velvet, leather, micro-dot, and other embossed finishes all interact with light differently. Even with the perfect colour, a mismatched texture can make the edge immediately noticeable. That’s why matching the embossing is just as important as matching the colour itself.

Lighting Matters

The same cabinet can look different in a showroom, under office lighting, and in a customer’s home.

Natural daylight, warm LEDs, and cool fluorescents all influence how colours are perceived. That’s why we evaluate matches under multiple lighting conditions before approving them, helping ensure they perform in the real world—not just under one set of lights.

Consistency from Batch to Batch

A great match isn’t just about today’s order. It’s about knowing that six months or even years from now, you can order the same product with confidence. Consistency across production batches is essential for manufacturers, cabinet shops, and designers who need reliable results from one project to the next.

A perfect match isn’t defined by colour alone. It’s the combination of colour, gloss, texture, lighting, and long-term consistency that creates an edge so seamless you hardly notice it’s there.

At Teknaform™, that’s the standard we work toward every day—because the best edgebanding is the kind you don’t even see.

“A perfect match isn’t just about creating the right product—it’s about earning our customers’ confidence with every order. That means delivering consistency, precision, and quality they can rely on today, tomorrow, and years from now. That’s why we’ve continually invested in our colour matching lab, technology, and expertise to ensure Teknaform delivers the highest-quality match and the most consistent edgebanding solutions in the industry.”
