In Part 1 of our series on QUV testing, we looked at how UV exposure can lead to yellowing, fading, chalking and surface degradation in edgebanding materials. In this post, we’re examining how Teknaform™ excelled in QUV testing—and more importantly, why. All QUV testing is conducted by a reputable third-party lab, ensuring results are unbiased, accurate, and meet industry standards.
Teknaform™ recently ran a 500-hour QUV test (UV only) to evaluate our product against our competitor’s. The results were dramatic:
Teknaform Edgebanding: Maintained its original appearance and mechanical integrity.
Competitor Product: Suffered a Delta E of 9.42 —a catastrophic failure in colour shift, with yellowing visible to the naked eye.

This result underscores the importance of formulation—especially the use of high-performance pigments and UV stabilizers.
For the technically curious, colour change in QUV testing is measured using the CIELAB colour space—which quantifies changes in lightness (L*), red-green (a*), and blue-yellow (b*) values. The total colour shift, or Delta E, is a calculated metric representing visible colour difference.Â

The Titanium Dioxide Advantage
One of the key reasons for Teknaform’s superior performance is our use of premium Titanium Dioxide (TiO₂) in our formulations. TiO₂ is widely used in plastics and has a range of benefits. Here’s why it matters:
Whiteness & Brightness:Â TiOâ‚‚ is the most effective light-scattering pigment, giving edgebanding a clean, opaque finish.
UV Protection:Â It absorbs and scatters UV rays, reducing degradation and extending product life.
Thermal & Weather Resistance: TiO₂ is heat-stable and chemically inert, helping our products resist discolouration and fading—even after prolonged exposure.
Cost-Effectiveness: We source high-quality TiOâ‚‚ to ensure long-term durability while staying competitively priced.
While some manufacturers use lower grade ingredients or skip it and QUV testing altogether, Teknaform™ chooses premium formulations with long-term performance in mind—because your surfaces deserve to last.
