At Teknaform™, edgebanding sustainability isn’t something we treat as a separate initiative—it’s built into how we work every day. From how we match materials to how we manufacture and recover them, our focus is simple: reduce waste, improve efficiency, and deliver consistent quality.
A big part of that starts with precision. Every submission follows a structured path—samples are created, reviewed, and refined before moving into production. If a match isn’t approved, that material doesn’t go to waste. It’s recovered and reprocessed through our recycling systems.
It’s a straightforward idea: the more precise the process, the less waste we create. That same thinking carries through to our quality control. Accuracy isn’t just about getting the product right—it has a direct impact on our environmental footprint. When products meet spec the first time, we reduce rework, rejected material, and unnecessary production.
We’ve also found ways to make this process more efficient for our customers. With our Match & Run edgebanding capability, materials can be reviewed and approved directly within production. That means fewer sampling cycles, less handling, and faster timelines. It’s a more efficient approach that saves time and reduces material use.
Behind all of this is a significant investment in recycling. Our dedicated 20,000 sq. ft. facility operates continuously and processed more than 5 million pounds of material last year alone. That includes our own production by-products as well as compatible materials from outside our own operations. It’s part of a broader effort to reduce industry-wide impact, not just our own.
At the same time, we’ve been working closely with our supplier partners to reduce chemical and ink waste. Through improved formulations and recovery processes, we’ve been able to cut ink-related waste by an estimated seven to eight times. These are the kinds of incremental changes that add up to meaningful impact over time.
Our commitment to responsible manufacturing is also reflected in our compliance with global standards. Teknaform™ is ROHS compliant, meaning our products are free from restricted hazardous substances like lead and mercury. It’s an important step in supporting safer production and cleaner recycling.
Sustainability doesn’t stop at our facility—it extends to how our products are used. We work closely with customers to help them select the right material sizing for their applications. Getting the width and thickness right reduces trim waste, improves yield, and ultimately leads to more efficient use of material. It’s a small adjustment that can make a big difference.
Our long-term goal is even more ambitious: to get to a point where we don’t need to rely on recycling at all. The aim is zero waste—where processes are refined enough that materials are used as efficiently as possible. It is an ambitious target, but one that reflects Teknaform’s commitment to creating a more efficient, responsible, and forward-thinking manufacturing environment.
